The Qatar Foundation for Social Work (QFSW), in collaboration with the Permanent Population Committee (PPC), celebrated World Population Day 2026, observed annually on 11 July, through a joint event hosted by the Family Consulting Center (Wifaq), one of QFSW’s affiliated centers. The event reaffirmed the commitment of both entities to raising awareness of population issues and supporting national efforts to achieve sustainable development while strengthening family cohesion and social stability.

The observance of World Population Day stems from the recommendation adopted by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1989 to mark the occasion annually on 11 July. The day aims to raise awareness of population-related issues, highlight their urgency and relevance to comprehensive development plans, and encourage sustainable solutions to population challenges.

The event featured keynote remarks from both organizations. Rashid Mohammed Al-Naimi, Chief Executive Officer of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work, emphasized that the occasion reflects the importance of institutional collaboration in addressing social and population-related issues. He highlighted the vital role played by social work institutions in supporting and empowering families and promoting family stability through QFSW’s affiliated centers, particularly the Family Consulting Center (Wifaq), which provides specialized family counseling services, strengthens family relationships, helps prevent family disputes, and contributes to enhancing social stability.

Al-Naimi also commended the collaboration with the Permanent Population Committee, describing it as an effective model of national partnership that promotes public awareness of population issues, supports sustainable development efforts, and contributes to achieving the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.

For its part, the Permanent Population Committee stressed that World Population Day serves as an important platform for raising awareness of population issues and linking them to sustainable development pathways. The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with national stakeholders, recognizing the close connection between population issues and social, economic, and family dimensions. It also emphasized the central role of the family as the cornerstone of sound population development and underscored the importance of coordinated institutional efforts to reinforce social cohesion and improve quality of life.

The event also included a guided tour of the Family Consulting Center (Wifaq), during which the Committee’s delegation was introduced to the Center’s specialized services in family counseling, family relationship support, conflict prevention, and the promotion of social stability. The delegation also reviewed the Center’s programs and initiatives and their contribution to national efforts aimed at preserving family cohesion as the foundation of sustainable population development.

At the conclusion of the event, both parties reaffirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination among national institutions concerned with population and social issues. They emphasized the need to develop initiatives and programs that respond to demographic changes while supporting family and community stability and enhancing quality of life.

The two organizations also stressed that World Population Day provides an important opportunity to highlight Qatar’s national efforts in addressing population issues and to promote greater public awareness of their significance in achieving sustainable development. They reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration in support of the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 and to advancing effective partnerships that serve society and improve the well-being of all its members.
